Meet
Adam Harbinson

Adam is an author, speaker, lecturer, broadcaster and a newspaper columnist. He has an acerbic wit and is known for his unusual approach and thought-provoking style.
Faith4Life combines
a heart for mission, a passion for the poor and a radical approach
to scripture. Adam explains; "The word 'radical' means to get
back to the root. It does not mean 'off the wall', nor does it
necessarily mean revolutionary, although when you consider the
state of the church, you'd have to be pretty revlutionary to get back
to how it should be.
Tony
Campolo once said, 'There are many good people in the church working
flat out to make Jesus real to people', but it can also be a respectable,
middle-class organisation, concerned more with maintaining the
status quo than with actually doing something to make a difference.
"My favourite
example of this," says Adam, "was when a young minister was addressing an Anglican
congregation in rural Ireland. Passionately he cried out, 'Thirty-thousand
children under the age of five die every day from easily treatable
conditions, and religion doesn't give a shit!' Sharp intakes of
breath all around. His hearers were shocked, and then he added,
'Why is it that you are more upset at my use of a four-letter
word than at the deaths of 30,000 children every day?' - that's
over a thousand during an average church service".
"Having
said all that", adds Adam, "we're not interested in being controversial
for the sake of being controversial. We simply want people to
be well informed so they can make right choices and pray wisely."
Adam
is married with a total of seven children and two grandsons. He
is married to Pauline and they live in Bangor, County Down in
Ireland. His third book; 'The Savage Shepherds - one man's story
of overcoming spiritual abuse', has recently been published by
Authentic. It's his story of Spiritual Abuse while part of a church
that grew out of the shepherding movement, now part of the Salt & Light network.
Savage Shepherds has endorsements from Bono, J John, Phil Baker, Ken Blue and Tony
Campolo. Read

Our
Statement of Beliefs and Mission
- As we seek to function as part of
the Christian media internationally, we are committed
to upholding and promoting the truth of the gospel
of grace and Christian values, to being a voice
for the voiceless, speaking out on behalf of the poor,
the sick and the persecuted.
- We believe it is the responsibility
of the Christian Church to engage fully in society
and by practical action, to demonstrate the love of
Jesus for all people.
- We believe that the Christian Church
must be tolerant, loving and forgiving, but that it
must not compromise the truth of Scripture in matters
relating to morality and social action.
- We believe it is the Christian's
responsibility to be salt and light in the world by
being in the world but not of the world.
- By informing the Church worldwide,
we seek to inspire and motivate to action in accordance
with 1 John 3 v 17; "If anyone has material possessions
and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him,
how can the love of God be in him?"
