by Sheree Osborne It's not often that you come across a book that's easy to read without being lightweight. I read Broken Wings in one sitting; it's a real page turner. The story moves along quickly, sometimes leaving your heart thumping with the anguish that little Shireen knew every day of her life. And there are times you want to scream at her, warning her of a danger you can see but she can't. As the cover says it's a deeply disturbing read, often harrowing, and the author must be admired for her great honesty and courage in baring all in her selfless passion to introduce her readers to the God of her little Gideon Bible. Her life was indeed a catalogue of misery: abandonment, physical, sexual and psychological abuse, suicide attempts, rape, self harm, emotional blackmail; it's all here, but more importantly there is hope and joy and love. And it doesn't end there, for on the very last page there's an offer; ‘If you have been affected by this book and would like to contact Sheree, (she changed her name to signify her fresh start), you can write to her'. And I think that lets you see something of the heart of the book and its author.
