Happy 100th to Singer Shea
And you thought Billy Graham was getting up in years? George Beverly Shea, the bass soloist who sang at Graham's crusades for almost six decades, has a birthday coming up February 1st – he'll turn 100.
Shea, whose signature songs include ‘How Great Thou Art’ and ‘I'd Rather Have Jesus,’ will be feted with a party and a concert, both in the Asheville area. Monday's private party at the Cove (Billy Graham Training Centre), will include dinner. And dessert: chocolate layer cake.
No word on whether Graham, 90 and frail, will make an appearance. But 85-year-old Cliff Barrows, who directed the choirs at Graham's crusades, is set to be there. |
